Implementation of Cold Stored Platelets

Usually, most health organizations (blood collection centers, hospital transfusion services, industry, the military…)  practice the storage of platelets at room temperature.  The TRANSFUSION AND APHERESIS SCIENCE journal has recently published an article which demonstrates the relevance of cold storage for platelets. Indeed, according to the article, this method achieve similar performances as room temperature storage. On top of that, it avoids waste and reduces bacterial contamination.
Promising results, which could inspire us to change our current usage patterns.
